The BW Group’s leading position in the maritime industry has been underpinned by the historic achievements of two long-standing shipping businesses: Bergesen d.y. ASA and World-Wide Shipping. Their individual histories can be found on the BW Gas and BW Shipping sites respectively.

Bergesen d.y. ASA, the largest gas carrier operator in the world, was acquired by World-Wide in 2003. The acquisition brought together two businesses with a similar commitment to quality and industry leadership. From 2003 to 2005, the Group underwent extensive restructuring, accompanied by the re-branding of the business under the BW name.

BW Group Ltd was incorporated in Bermuda and became the holding company of the Group on 30 April 2007.

The BW Group now comprises BW Gas, BW Offshore, BW Shipping and BW Bulk. They are supported by a network of BW Shipping offices around the world.
